On August 8, closely following the release of the first batch of registration, China CFDA released the second batch of registered infant formula, including 3 product lines (9 products) from 3 domestic manufacturers. No overseas manufacturers were included in the list.

Up to now 24 enterprises with 98 products have won China’s approval, with domestic enterprises accounting for a large part of it. (check the English version in the updated F-list) It is worth noting that the “Lactogen” series manufactured by Nestle has obtained approval for a full product line (all 3 stages). The first batch only included registrations for product stages in the 6-12 month and 12-36 month range.
With more and more infant formula getting registered, enterprises with approved products are engaged in marketing and hoping to leverage their temporary advantage, particularly given that Chinese distributors and retailers are wary of signing purchase contracts for unregistered products. It is said that Beingmate, whose products are included in the first batch of list, has signed a purchase contract worth over 1 billion RMB with its distributor. Market volatility is at an all-time high in recent years, approved manufacturers will attempt to exploit any disruption in supply and hope to consolidate market share in the wake of other manufacturers being forced from the market.
