On 29 Dec 2015, Guangdong FDA held a press conference to announce the launch of a new food traceability system from 1 Jan 2016. The new system has been developed based on the original infant formula traceability system Guangdong FDA has been using. The new system will cover more product categories including other baby foods, edible oil and alcoholic products and will track their movement throughout the supply chain.
At the end of 2016, it’s expected that over 90% of these foods will be incorporated into the traceability system. In the long run, the system will allow all food categories to be searchable and those receiving intensified regulation to be fully traceable.
For consumers, they can scan the traceability code or barcode on the product label using a mobile device to access information on the manufacturer, raw materials, production, test report, distributors and retailers.
