Take home

A recent CFDA announcement revealed that infant formula brands, “Yabais” and “Liaoyuan” were found to not comply with China’s National Food Safety Standards.

On 19 Jul 2016, CFDA announced results of a random inspection of infant formula products conducted during the month of June. Among 227 batches tested, 2 batches were shown to not comply with Chinese national standards. Although the number of incompliant products and the disqualification rate was low it was interesting to see that in one of the products a staggering 10 quality and nutritional indexes as outlined in GB 10765-2010 were outside of standardized ranges .The brand in question is called Yabais and is produced by Yabais (Shenzhen) Dairy Co., Ltd. located in Shenzhen, China.

In addition to some general rectification measures (such as cessation of production and product recall), CFDA has outlined that this recent discovery is being treated as an extremely serious problem and will be investigated thoroughly. The investigation result should be published before 20 Aug according to CFDA.
