China to Resume US Pork Importation

According to information from United States Department of Agriculture, China will resume the import of pork from 14 pork processing plants and warehouses in the USA in the near future.

Last year, China suspended the import of US pork produced from animals fed with feed containing ractopamine (used to promote leanness) which is banned in China. The 14 approved plants and warehouses will only be allowed to export pork without ractopamine.

According to statistical data from China customs, from January to September 2015, China’s total import volume of pork reached 518,000 tons, which increased 22.28% compared to the same period last year. The import volume of pork from the USA was 82,500 tons, which decreased 15.12% comparing to the same period last year.
