As revealed by SAMR announcement issued on Jan. 23, the Administration for Market Regulation across China completed the sampling inspection of nearly 3.7 million batches of food products (including health food and food additives) during the second half-year of 2019. The inspection is based on the national food safety standards, and the overall qualification rate reached 97.8%, which increased by 0.2% compared with the same time in 2018.

The leading causes of inspection failure include excessive levels of pesticide and veterinary drug residues, microbial contamination, and excessive concentrations of food additives, which accounted for 31.9%, 24.2%, and 19.9% of failures.
