EU Permits Iron Milk Caseinate as Iron Source in Food for Special Medical Purposes and Total Diet Replacement for Weight Control

As revealed by Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2024/2791 issued on October 31, 2024, the EU authorized the use of iron milk caseinate as an iron source in total diet replacement products for weight control and food for special medical purposes (excluding those intended for infants and young children). This substance has been added to the Annex of Regulation No 609/2013. The new regulation will take effect on the twentieth day following its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.

Iron milk caseinate was previously approved for use as an iron source in food and food supplements in June 2024. For more information, please refer to the related ChemLinked news.
