GCC Drafts English Version of GSO 2106:2025 on Infant Formula, Follow-Up and Formula for Special Medical Purposes

GSO 2106:2025 introduces detailed compositional limits and ingredient prohibitions for infant formula, follow-on formula, young child products and certain special medical formulas, including bans on hydrogenated oils and added sucrose or fructose in infant formula. The standard also tightens labeling, claims and marketing rules by requiring Arabic and English labeling, restricting nutrition and health claims, and setting specific statements and presentation rules for these products.

On July 25, 2026, the Gulf Standardization Organization (GSO) released an initial English draft of the technical regulation GSO 2106:2025 Infants Formula, Follow on Formula for Older Infants and Product for Young Children and Formulas for Special Medical Purposes. GSO 2106:2025 is currently in force and sets updated requirements for the composition, quality, safety, registration, labeling, claims and marketing of infant formula, follow-up formula, young child nutrition products and certain formulas for special medical purposes. The document is open for public consultation until October 23, 2026.
