Imported Wines: 49 Batches Rejected at Port in H1 2015

During the 1st half year of 2015 49 batches imported wines were refused entry to China due to non-compliance issues including the use of excessive food additives and excessive levels of copper detected in the products.

The major problems were associated with excessive concentrations of sorbic acid and copper, the two of which caused 38% of the total number of inspection failure. Official data suggests that 29% of the rejected wines originated from Spain, while wines from France (12%), Portugal (8%) and Argentina (8%) were also found non-compliant wines during the Jan to Jun, 2015 period. 35% of the unqualified products were destroyed and the rest have been returned.

Approximately 246 million liters of wines have been imported to China during the first half of the year, and the top exporters are France, Chile, Spain and Australia.
