India to Revise Sweetener Standards

On Mar. 1, 2017, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FASSI) drafted “Food Safety and Standards (Food Product Standard and Food Additives) Amendment Regulation, 2017”, which is open to public consultation until Mar. 30, 2017.

The standards for the sweeteners: cane jiggery, cane gur, sodium saccharin, and calcium saccharin have been revised in India.
On Mar. 1, 2017, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FASSI) drafted “Food Safety and Standards (Food Product Standard and Food Additives) Amendment Regulation, 2017”, which is open to public consultation until Mar. 30, 2017.
The amendment to the regulation is mainly related to the revision of regulations for sweetening agents including honey, which prescribes the revised standards for the physicochemical characteristics, hygienic standards, labeling requirements, test methods, etc. of cane jaggery or cane gur and sodium saccharin (food grade), and new standards for calcium saccharin (food grade).
