According to the latest MHLW notification, 58 batches of food products imported from 19 countries/regions were found non-compliant in September 2021.
Frozen food, cereals and vegetables, and fish meat paste product accounted for the majority of the overall rejections, representing 34.4%, 24.1% and 13.7% respectively. The main reasons for the rejections include:
Violation of the food and additives standards (63.7%)
Excessive pesticide residues(12.0%)
It is worth noting that the seven batches of Malaysian products are all fish meat paste product. In addition, all of them were rejected due to excessive coliform bacteria.
As we all know, Japan conducts multiple inspections for imported food, including monitoring inspection, order inspection, guidance inspection and administrative inspection. According to the notification, 60.3% of the rejected food failed the guidance inspection, which are conducted by using the food specification, standards of pesticides, additives and violation records of the food category as a reference.
