Important amendments to South Korea’s “Declaration and Inspection Essentials for Imported Livestock Products” became effective on 4 Feb 2016. Details are as below:
1. Newly established requirements for sanitary certificates from exporting countries
The sanitary certificate or bovine spongiform encephalopathy free certificates issued by the exporting country shall comply with the following conditions:
Original certificate (accompanied by the copy)
Certified translations in either Korean or English shall be submitted should the certificate is present in the language (except English) of the exporting country
2. The scope of products requiring pre-import declaration has been expanded.
3. New detailed inspection rules for imported livestock products.
4. Refine the inspection methods for inspection of imported livestock products.
5. The disposing period for all unqualified imported livestock products is specified as “within one year since the notification date”.
6. Specific rectification measures from meticulous/random inspections with unqualified results are standardized.
7. Scope of prohibited hazardous substances are designated.
