SFDA Issued the Draft Inventory of Existing Health Food Ingredient in China (Second Batch)

SFDA has released the opinion draft of second batch of Inventory of Existing health food Ingredient in China for public comments.

In order to further strengthen the management of health food raw materials, China State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) has released the second batch of Inventory of Existing Health Food Ingredient in China on 6 July, 2012 for public consultation until 20 July, 2012. Look back, on 7 December, 2011, SFDA issued the first batch of the Inventory of Existing Health Food Ingredient in China (Draft), and hereby sought public opinions due by December 13, 2011. The 2011 Opinion Draft contains many kinds of health food ingredients, such as psyllium shell, pueraria flower, wolfberry seed oil, seadragon, hippocampi and antler. But until now no formal inventory has come out.

The MOH Order No.51-2002 further standardized the management of raw materials of health food and issued three inventories in Annex form, namely:

• Inventory of Ingredients both Food and Drugs

• Inventory of Ingredients applicable to Health Food

• Inventory of Ingredients banned for use in Health Food

Compared with the 114 kinds of ingredients listed in the Inventory of Ingredients Applicable to Health Food issued in 2002, items of the currently released Opinion Drafts of the first batch and second batch are not included in it. Though SFDA hasn’t officially announced, we can guess in the future the inventory would be supplemented.
