South Korea Officially Implements Pork Traceability System

South Korea’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) has decided that, from 28 Jun 2015 on, the livestock traceability system which is applied to beef products shall be officially extended to the management of domestic pork products after a six month grace period.

During the grace period for pork (28 Dec 2014 - 27 Jun 2015) noncompliance with the livestock traceability act was not subject to punitive measures. Upon official implementation of the pork traceability system competent authorities will jointly conduct centralized inspections and penalties will be imposed on all violations. The inspection will target domestic pork and imported products. Supervision will emphasize checking the traceability code of each product.
