South Korea Proposes Labeling Requirements for General Foods in Capsule and Tablet Forms

South Korea's draft Food Labeling Standard would require general foods made in capsule or tablet form to display a clear disclaimer stating that they are not medicine or health functional foods.

On June 22, 2026, South Korea Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) issued Notice No. 2026-296, proposing a partial amendment to the Food Labeling Standard. The draft regulation introduces mandatory disclaimer labeling for general foods manufactured in capsule or tablet forms to prevent consumers from confusing them with medical products and health functional foods. It also updates the labeling criteria for free-range eggs during disease quarantine periods. Public feedback on this draft is open until August 21, 2026.
