South Korea Simplifies Submission Requirements for Health Functional Food Ingredient Recognition

South Korea has eliminated the requirement to submit pesticide residue test reports for animal-based, microbial, and synthetic functional ingredients.

On December 23, 2025, the South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) announced partial revisions to the Regulation on the Recognition of Functional Ingredients and Standards & Specifications for Health Functional Foods. The revisions primarily aim to streamline submission requirements for pesticide residue data and to harmonize regulatory terminology with other existing food regulations.
