South Korea Solicits Opinions on Labelling Standards for Foods and Health Functional Foods

Korea is soliciting public opinion on the proposed promulgation of a series of food labeling rules following on from the implementation of the Korean Food Labeling and Advertising Act.

On April 11th, 2019, MFDS released notice No. 2019-192 [1] and No. 2019-195 [2] to solicit public opinions on the revision of Food Labelling Standards and the labeling standard for health functional foods.

The revision of these two standards follows on from the implementation of Korean Food Labeling and Advertising Act [3] on March 14th, 2019, which integrates standards and requirements articulated within the Food Sanitation Act, Functional Foods Health Act, and Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act. (Read ChemLinked news [4] for more info)

Main revisions of these two standards:
1. Rules which have already been specified in Korean Food Labeling and Advertising Act have been deleted
2. Terminology and expressions have been revised
