1. Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Health has released the draft Food (Labelling and Advertising) Regulations 2026, consolidating the 2022 rules and amendments and introducing provisions for digital (QR) codes.
2. The draft refines labeling exemptions for B2B products, processing aids containing major allergens, and 16 categories exempt from nutrition declarations, while relaxing formatting rules for warning statements.
3. The regulation is scheduled to take effect on July 1, 2026, with a transition arrangement under which products manufactured before that date are not required to be relabeled.
On February 17, 2026, the Food Control Administration Unit of the Sri Lankan Ministry of Health released the draft Food (Labelling and Advertising) Regulations 20261 for public consultation. Designed to replace the current 2022 framework, the new draft primarily incorporates subsequent amendments and introduces the integration of digital codes.
