Bangladesh Consults on Safe Food (Packaged Food Labeling) Regulations 2026, Introducing Front-of-Pack Labeling

1. Bangladesh’s BFSA has issued a draft 2026 Safe Food (Packaged Food Labeling) Regulation to replace the 2017 rules, introducing mandatory front-of-pack warning labels for products high in sugar, sodium and saturated fat, and more detailed nutrition declarations. 2. The draft modernizes labeling by regulating e-commerce food sales, clarifying barcode/QR code use for traceability, tightening allergen formatting and scope, and setting strict rules on principal display surface and minimum font sizes. 3. Quantitative ingredient declaration (QUID) and country-of-origin labeling are strengthened, especially for imported foods, with the regulation to take effect six months after its final publication in the official gazette.

On January 26, 2026, the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) released the draft "Safe Food (Packaged Food Labeling) Regulations, 2026," aiming to replace the existing 2017 regulations.
