On November 8, 2022, Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) officially issued the Regulations Governing the Labeling of Health Food, which will come into effect on January 1, 2024.As per the notice released by Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) on May 31, 2022, Taiwan opens “Regulations Governing the Labeling of Health Food” (this Regulation) for public feedback. Any feedback can be sent to [email protected] within 60 days after the promulgation date.
Major Revisions
The draft adds the legal basis for this Regulation and incorporates the Articles that have already specified in other regulations related to health food, such as Article 19, 22, 29 of “Review Principles of Health Food Inspection and Registration”.
In addition, the draft adds some new requirements for the labeling of health food containing fish oil or red yeast rice.
For health food containing fish oil as raw material, when labeling its warning message, it shall at least contain the following words or words with similar meanings: “Please consult doctor first if the product will be consumed by infants, pregnant women, diabetics or those with coagulation disorders and are taking anticoagulants.”
For health food containing red yeast rice as raw material, when labeling its warning message, it shall at least contain the following words or words with similar meaning: “Consuming this product together with lipid-lowering drugs (statin and fibrate drugs) or together with grapefruit may cause liver damage, kidney damage and rhabdomyolysis.”
For imported products whose importation date is before the effective date of this Regulation, they can be sold until their expiration date.
