Taiwan to Modify the Labeling Rules of Prepackaged Beverages Containing Fruit and/or Vegetable Juice

On Jan 21 2014, Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) released the draft proposal on modifying the Labeling Rules of Prepackaged Beverages Containing Fruit and/or Vegetable Juice. Subject to the modified announcement, the Rules are expected to take effect on Jul 01 2014, one year ahead of the scheduled date.

The modified version is set to replace the original released on Oct 02 2013 (See Chemlinked News Jun 04 2013), the content of which has been partly amended to further specify the requirement that the total content of fruit and/or vegetable juice shall constitute more than 10% juice concentration for products marketed as fruit and vegetable juice products. Wording such as “fruit and/or vegetable juice” is not permitted on labelling if the content of fruit and/or vegetable juice accounts for less than 10% of the total beverage.

Public comments will be accepted in 30 days after the publication of the proposal. The Taiwanese FDA can be contacted through the link below.
