Takehome:
- 915 batches of imported food and food-related products failed sampling inspection in Taiwan in 2016, mainly including fruits and vegetables, spices, substances used as both food and drugs, and food contact materials.
On Apr. 14, 2017, the Ministry of Health and Welfare of Taiwan released 2016 border inspection report, which reveals that there were 675,000 batches of food and food-related products applied for border inspection in total in 2016. Sampling inspection was carried out for 52,725 batches of food and food-related products, 915 batches of which failed the inspection, accounting for 1.74% of the total amount of sampling inspection.
The incompliant categories were mainly fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables, spices, substances used as both food and drugs, and food contact materials. All the incompliant foods will be destroyed or returned at port, and sampling inspection ratio will be increased for corresponding food categories (possible 100% increase).
