Thailand Amends the Regulations for Fish Oil as well as Oil and Fats

Enterprises can submit relevant materials to Thai Food and Drug Administration for product approval in case some physicochemical indicators of oil and fats, or fish oil do not comply with relevant standard due to factors not affecting safety.

On July 31, 2024, Thailand Food and Drug Administration (FDA) unveiled MOPH Notification No. 451 and No. 452, which involve regulatory requirements for oil and fats, as well as fish oil. These two notifications have been effective since the date of promulgation.

According to the amendments specified in MOPH No, 451 and 452, in case the fatty acid content or the physicochemical indicators of oil and fats, or fish oil do not comply with corresponding regulations due to factors like area, season and farming which do not affect safety, then the enterprises can submit relevant evidence to FDA for approval of these products. The documents required include:

1. Raw material data, involving area, season, cultivation, etc.

2. Chemical and physical characteristic data of oils and fats, as specified in the regulation (not required for fish oil)

3. Analysis results of fatty acid composition

4. Quality specification data of oils and fats (if any)

5. Supporting academic literature
