On May 2, 2025, Thailand Unveiled MOPH Notification No. 457 B.E. 2568 (2025) Prescribing Foods Prohibited from Production, Import or Sale, with effect from May 3, 2025.
This new regulation responds to reported incidents in which children choked after consuming jelly or jelly dessert products containing glucomannan or konjac flour. These products are often packaged in small containers that can easily expel the jelly into the mouth, posing a serious risk of choking and airway obstruction. To reduce the risk of such hazards, preventive measures are deemed necessary.
As a result, this notification repeals MOPH Notification No. 263 B.E. 2545 (2002) and replaces it with updated provisions as outlined below:
