The packaging and labeling requirements for fresh fruits and vegetables in Thailand have been released, including the minimum requirements for good packaging practice and the information that must be provided by importers.
On Nov. 1, 2016, the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand (MOPH) preannounced the “Requirements for Production Processes, Production Equipment, Storage and Labeling of Some Fresh Fruits or Vegetables”, which will be open to public consultation for 40 days after the announcement was made.
The minimum requirements for the packaging industry and good packaging practice have been published in the new regulation. Importers of fresh fruits and vegetables should provide good practice certificate of satisfaction or any equivalent certifications proving the minimum requirements are met.
The following information should be labeled on each package as a minimum requirement:
1) Name and address of producer (packing house) or importer and country of origin
2) Registration Number
3) Code or Number of production lot
This information should be on the labeling of the original container. If fresh fruits or vegetables are presented to the consumer without packing, the required information must be clearly and prominently displayed on a label on the container or tray.
