Thailand Unveils the Standard of Production, Processing and Labeling of Organic Agriculture Products

In Thailand, the use of food additives is restricted for organic products. If the product claims itself as “organic”, then the organic ingredients must be no less than 95% of the overall raw materials.

On Feb. 22, 2022, Thailand Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives issued the Standard of Production, Processing and Labeling of Organic Agriculture Products. It came into effect since the date of promulgation.

According to the standard, while processing organic products, organic food ingredients instead of non-organic food ingredients should be used. However, the use of food additives is restricted. It is not allowed to use ingredients containing nano materials.

In Thailand, the manufacture of organic agricultural products should be granted approval by the competent authorities. During the processing, organic products should be protected from pests. Contamination should be avoided during package, storage and transportation.

When it comes to the labeling, the content of organic ingredients must be no less than 95% for products claiming “organic”.
