As of September 14, 2020, China’s NHC department has terminated the technical reviews of 52 new food ingredients. As revealed by the NHC database, there are three types for termination:
ingredients considered substantially equivalent to approved new food ingredients;
ingredients considered as local foods instead of new food ingredients; and
ingredients considered as ordinary foods.

Ingredients considered substantially equivalent to approved new food ingredients
To ingredients which processing technique is slightly different from that of approved new food ingredients, they are considered substantially equivalent to approved ones. Except for the differeces in processing techniques, they should follow the other requirements of approved new food ingredients.
