As revealed by the GAC announcement issued on Mar. 25, 117 batches of food products imported from 31 countries/regions were rejected in Jan 2020. The majority of rejections were associated with aquaculture products, meat products, and beverages. The main reasons for the rejections were:
Lack of required documents/evidential materials was the leading reason for rejection by customs officials (28.2%)
Followed by the detection of animal epidemic disease (14.5%)
The discrepancy between cargo and certificate (12%)
It is noteworthy that two batches of dairy products were rejected during customs inspections. One batch of organic skim milk powder from Germany was rejected due to discrepancies between the cargo and the certificates submitted, and a batch of mozzarella cheese from Italy had an excessive microorganism count.
