133 Batches of Import Food Rejected in March 2020

According to GAC data, lack of required documentation was the leading reason for imported food being rejected by China GAC during customs inspections in Mar, 2020.

On Apr. 30th, China GAC released the list of non-compliant food products in March, 2020.[1] A total of 133 batches of food from 28 different countries and regions were rejected.

Origin

Eighteen batches (13.5% of total rejections) of rejected imported food products originated from Taiwan China, including five batches of beverages. Thirteen batches (9.7% of total rejections) of aquaculture products from Ecuador were rejected.  

Category

Aquaculture products, meat and meat productsfruits and nuts were the major categories of rejected foods, which accounted for 16.5% (aquaculture), 15.7% (meat) and 12.7% (fruit and nuts) of all rejected imported food in March. Other categories included beverages and solid beverages, honey, etc.

Two batches of goat/sheep colostrum powder from Netherlands were rejected for lack of required documentation. A batch of skimmed milk powder from Germany was rejected after test results indicated an excessive concentration of nitrites.

Reasons for Rejection

Main reasons for rejection in March were:

  • Lack of required documentation (13.5%)

  • Unqualified labelling (10.5%)

  • Animal epidemic disease detected (9.7%)

The March data showed significant concordance with the February data. The major reasons for rejection in February were the same as those in March and included, labelling issues (1), contamination with animal epidemic diseases (2) and documentation issues (3).
