China Consults on New Version of GB 7718 General Standard for the Labeling of Prepackaged Foods

On January 19, 2024, China NHC announced to seek public feedbacks for four national food safety standards, including the long-awaited new version of GB 7718 General Standard for the Labeling of Prepackaged Foods. Stakeholders may submit comments via the online system before February 29. As the third consultation draft of GB 7718, the new draft is quite different from the current version and its two previous drafts. The proposed changes cover a wide range of aspects, such as the application scope, ingredient list, date labeling, food claims, digital labeling, and imported food labeling.

China Unveils Draft of GB 29922 General Rules for Foods for Special Medical Purposes

On January 19, 2024, National Health Commission (NHC) released the consultation draft of GB 29922, with the aim to replace the 2013 version concerning foods for special medical purposes (FSMP) intended for consumers above the age of one. It covers nutritionally complete foods, specific nutritionally complete foods, and nutritionally incomplete foods. The revisions mainly involve the product types, labels and technical requirements. Any feedback can be sent to the online platform before February 29, 2024.
