[Updated] 910 Infant Formula Recipes Registered as per China’s New GB Standards

Before the release of the new GB standards, China’s infant formula industry once has around 1,300 valid recipes on the market. Since the new GB standards came into effect yesterday, lots of recipes registered as per the old standards became invalid.

Taiwan to Revise Contaminants and Toxins in Food

On November 13, 2023, Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) released Draft Sanitation Standard for Contaminants and Toxins in Food, involving food categories such as young child formula, infant drinks, offal of poultry and livestock, nut, seeds, and chocolate. The amended contents are proposed to take effect from July 1, 2024. Any feedback can be submitted within 60 days from November 13, 2023.

On August 16, 2023, the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) of Japan issued an Approval Matters Proposal Regarding Formulated Milk Powder Containing Fungus Powder (draft), seeking comments from the public until September 15, 2023. The draft proposes the addition of detailed provisions for powdered infant formula, including the inclusion of specific bacterial strains, intake tests for infants, and data requirements.

China Updates Administrative Measures for Infant Formula Milk Powder Recipe Registration

On July 10 2023, State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) unveiled the updated Administrative Measures for Registration of Infant and Young Children Milk Powder Formula Recipes, replacing the 2016 version. Major revisions include the definition of situations not approved for registration, labels, on-site inspection requirements, and measures to optimize business environment. The new version will come into force on October 1, 2023.
