Japan Updates the Positive List of FCM

Referring to the public comments and new substance registration applications received prior to Oct. 30, 2020, on Aug. 18, 2021 MHLW announced to revise the specifications of 425 substances and add 1161 substance into the food contact material positive list.

China Consults on 11 New Varieties of Food-related Products

On Aug. 20, China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA) opened 11 new varieties of food-related products to public feedback, including five new FCM additive varieties, four FCM additives with expanded application scope, and two new resins. Any comment shall be sent back to CFSA prior to Sep. 10, 2021.

[Updated] South Korea Releases New Packaging Material Requirements

MOE proposed two drafts of the packaging material requirements. The “unable to recycle" label is newly proposed. The recycling symbol texts indicating the packaging material are revised. A new exemption situation of labeling “difficult to recycle” is brought out.

On June 29, China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA) opened eight new varieties of food-related products to public feedback, including one new variety of substance applied in food contact materials (FCM), one new variety of FCM additive, five FCM additives with expanded application scope, and one new variety of disinfectant raw material. Any comment shall be sent back to CFSA prior to July 21, 2021.

Japan JCII Embarks upon FCM Product Registration Service Starting from Apr. 1

Japan JCII newly established Food Contact Materials Safety Center by incorporating responsibility of JHOSPA, JHPA,JHAVDC, which aims to optimize the management of food contact materials. Starting from April 1st , 2021, enterprises are allowed to apply for "compliance certificate" of food contact materials and articles (FCM) with JCII. The issuance of the certificate indicates that FCM products conform to the voluntary standards.
