Australia to Implement New Food Labeling System

On July 21, 2015, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott announced that a new Australian food labeling system will be implemented from 2016.

According to the new food labeling regulation, country of origin, cultivation site and packaging site information of major ingredients should be indicated on the label as a mandatory requirement.

The original green and golden kangaroo logo used to indicate products made in Australia will be improved with a scale bar which that will show the percentage of local raw materials used in the product. This new regulation will allow consumers to differentiate between products produced locally or overseas.
