The Certification and Accreditation Administration of China (CNCA) will announce a new registration requirement for all overseas honey manufacturers in the first half of 2016, according to a trusted Chemlinked source. The development of this new policy aligns with statements made by Mr. Ye Zhiping of Shanghai CIQ during REACH24H’s annual Food Regulatory Summit held last year (see CL Food News on 22 Sep 2015). Honey exporters and manufactures should pay special attention to this pending regulatory barrier as when fully implemented only honey sourced from registered manufacturers will be permitted entry to Chinese markets.
China CNCA onsite audit of overseas manufacturers is a requirement for all imported food. The system is being phased in gradually in a category by category fashion starting with high risk products. Currently, overseas manufacturers of the following food categories require China CNCA onsite inspection, audit and registration:
- Aquatic products
- Meat
- Dairy products
- Birds nest
Honey, alchoholic products and canned foods will be the next food categories to required CNCA registration, audit and inspection.
