On August 20, 2022, General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) published the list of non-compliant food products in July of 2022. A total of 233 batches of imported food from 39 countries/regions were rejected.
Most non-compliant imported food in May came from Vietnam (22.3%, mostly aquatic products), followed by Taiwan, China (7.7%, mostly grain products), Thailand and U.K. (both occupied 7.3%) The major reasons for the import rejection were:
Exceeding the use of food additives/nutritional fortification substances 19.3%)
Lack of required documents or evidential materials (15.9%)
Discrepancy between cargo and certificate (12.9%)
Unqualified labeling (11.2%)
Microorganism contamination (9.5%)
Noteworthy Products
1. Dairy products
Three batches of cheese from France failed customs clearance for exceeding shelf life. One batch of goat milk powder from New Zealand were rejected due to excessive acidity. As per GB 19644-2010 Milk Powder, the acidity for goat milk powder shall be within 7°T -14°T.
2. Complementary baby food
A total of 11 batches of complementary baby food products were rejected in July. Among them, seven batches were imported from UK and four batches were from Taiwan, China. Notably, all were rejected for unqualified labeling.
