On August 26, 2024, General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) published the list of non-compliant food products in July 2024. A total of 392 batches of imported food from 44 countries/regions were rejected.
Most non-compliant imported food in July came from Ecuador (17.6%, all aquatic products), followed by Japan (11.2%, mostly snacks) and the U.S. (7.4%, mostly meat products). The major reasons for import rejections were as follows:
Incompliance with food national standards (29.6%)
Discrepancy between cargo and certificate (22.7%)
Unqualified labeling (17.1%)
Detection of animal diseases (12.0%)
Lack of required documents or evidential materials (8.7%)
Noteworthy Products
1. Dairy product
One batch of cheese from France and one batch of whole milk powder from Canada failed customs clearance in July. Both were rejected by customs due to the lack of certificates or other documents.
2. Infant formula
One batch of lactose-free infant formula for special medical purpose from the Netherlands were rejected for unqualified labeling. For the labeling of infant formula for special medical purpose, please refer to the Label section in China Food for Special Medical Purpose (FSMP) Regulation.
3. Baby food
One batch of French canned complementary foods for infants and young children was rejected due to non-compliance with the labeling requirements stated in GB 10770-2010 Canned Complementary Foods for Infants and Young Children. In addition, one batch of complementary food supplements from New Zealand failed to meet the labeling requirements specified in GB 22570-2014 Complementary Food Supplements.
