China to Extend CBEC Policy Grace Period for another Year

The grace period of China’s cross-border e-commerce policy will be extended from the end of 2017 to the end of 2018.

On September 20, 2017, during an executive meeting of the State Council held by Premier Li Keqiang it was revealed that the grace period for CBEC would be extended until the end of 2018. In addition new comprehensive experimental zones are to be established to promote the development of CBEC in China.

Although no official implementation rules have been released, it is still unclear if infant formula, health food, food for special medical purposes etc. will be able to be imported through CBEC channel without pre-market approval. During the extended grace period, government may put forward more reasonable measures to supervise CBEC.
