NHFPC has finished optimizing China’s food standards by consolidating approximately 5,000 food related national standards.
Over the past 3 years, NHFPC has been focusing on optimizing the old food standard system by consolidating, revising and updating around 5,000 food standards. In the past China food standards were plague by heavy overlap and conflicts in these standards which were developed by multiple ministries and departments. The NFSS system is only under the administration of NHFPC and was introduced in 2009 to create a unified standard system for the Chinese food industry.
Recently, NHFPC revealed that the NFSS system now contains 683 national food safety standards in total and there are more than 400 standards pending release in 2016. NHFPC will continue to improve the NFSS system. More emphasis will be placed on revising hygienic requirements for food production and operation, food nutrition and the limits of contaminants in food.
