On Jan. 26, 2018, China AQSIQ released the non-compliant food data of Dec. 2017. Altogether 780 batches of food failed import primarily due to poor product quality, non-compliant certificates and label issues.
Dairy products
The data shows 17 batches of dairy products were found non-compliant, including milk, milk powder, cream, and cheese. Yeast exceeding limit level and excessive use of food additives were also major reasons which caused authorities to reject products during customs and quarantine inspection. 2 batches of Devondale milk powder from Australia were rejected because products exceeded shelf life.
Food category | Non-compliant items | Non-compliant batches |
Cream | Food spoilage | 1 |
Milk powder | Exceeding shelf life | 2 |
Cheese | Non-compliant label Exceeding permitted yeast level Exceeding use of food additives | 11 |
Baby food
A batch of Mica infant formula milk powder manufactured by Farmland Dairy Pty Ltd. (Australia) failed inspection due to lack of compliant certificates/supporting materials. 9 batches of complementary baby food from Genius and Little Freddie were found non-compliant, as mandatory items including iron and insoluble dietary fiber do not conform to requirements in related GB standards. In addition, Gerber cereal snacks were also rejected due to non-compliant use of nutritional fortification substances.
Health food
Though non-compliant health food accounted for a very small portion of non-compliance issues according to data released, it is worth noting that 2 batches of Swisse products were rejected due to exceeding shelf life, which are Swisse High Strength Cranberry and Swisse Chlorophyll.
