National Entry-Exit Inspection Agency supervision work carried out on inbound goods reaching Chinese ports in May 2017 revealed that 451 batches of food products did not meet Chinese national food safety and quality standards. These food products were from 42 different countries/territories and belonged to 19 categories including cakes and biscuits, beverages and cereals. The most common reasons for failure were non-compliant labels, deviation from quality standards or failure to supply required certifications. All products mentioned were then either destroyed or shipped back to the country of origin.
Some noteworthy compliance failures include:
Coca Cola Life exceeded the limit for the additive potassium benzoate, resulting in the immediate destruction of 1797.12 Kg of product at the Port of Shanghai
Some Thailand Dry Mango had to be sent back to country of origin because it exceeded the limit for the utilization of sulfur dioxide
Nissin mini imitation chicken instant soup noodles, Nissin Fresh Shrimp Instant Noodles and Nissin Curry Instant Noodles will also be destroyed at Liaoning Port because they all contained some chicken and pork based ingredients which did not meet regulatory requirements.
We remind all importers that they should check all product ingredients in order to pass the first checks and reduce financial losses associated with importation.
