China Revamps FSMP Framework with Updated General Principles and New Standard for Tumor Nutrition

China updates its general standard for Foods for Special Medical Purposes (FSMP), GB 29922-2025, introducing more detailed product classifications, revised nutritional requirements, and stricter labeling rules, with a two-year transition period until September 2, 2027.
A new, dedicated standard for tumor-specific nutritionally complete foods, GB 31662-2025, has been established to regulate products designed to meet the unique metabolic and nutritional needs of tumor patients.
On September 25, 2025, China's National Health Commission (NHC) and the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) jointly announced the release of 32 new national food safety standards. Among them, two standards signal a major overhaul of the regulatory landscape for Foods for Special Medical Purposes (FSMP), impacting manufacturers, importers, and developers in this specialized sector.
