A Chinese expert review board composed of experts from both government authorities and alcohol companies has unanimously approved “Norm Terminology Translation of Imported Wines (manuscript)”. The manuscript was issued for consultation at the end of last year. With all necessary amendments made and the consultation process complete the official version is expected to be implemented nationwide later this year.
The new standard is a collection of normative translation terminologies relating to imported wines, grapes, regions and wineries. It is divided into three major parts, the content of which includes:
Part I General concepts
Wine labeling terminology is listed in this part, inclusive of words in official languages of exporting countries in addition to those in English.
Par II Wine grape varieties
Names of world’s major wine grapes (except China’s varieties) are included in this part. Original countries, alias and colors of grapes are covered as well.
Part III Wine regions and wineries
