GCC Countries Propose New Technical Regulations for Greek-Style Yogurt

GCC member states and Yemen jointly notified the WTO of draft Gulf Technical Regulations to harmonize standards for plain and flavored Greek-style yogurt.

On April 27, 2026, the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)—the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia—alongside Yemen, have jointly submitted two draft technical regulations to the World Trade Organization (WTO) regarding Greek-style yogurt products. These draft technical regulations set forth the requirements to be met for both plain Greek-Style Yogurt and Flavored and Sweetened Greek-Style Yogurt. The proposed regulations aim to harmonize dairy standards across the participating Middle Eastern nations, ensuring baseline product quality, standardizing nutritional labeling, and streamlining both intra-regional and international trade.
