Indonesia Issued New Regulation for Imported Foods of Plant Origin

Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture of Indonesia released a regulation for safety management of imported and exported fresh foods of plant origin. The new regulation will come into force from Feb 2016.

The regulation sets out very strict market entry requirements for countries that export plant based foods to Indonesia in terms of import application, product inspection, monitoring measures as well as safety limitations. The pending regulation specifies 6 distinct categories of plant based foods, totaling 103 plant derived foods including vegetables, fruits and cereals. In addition, the new provision also sets 2161 maximum levels for pesticides, heavy metals, toxins, bacteria, etc. in foods.
