Japan to Approve 4 New Food Additives

Recently, Japan MHLW published the draft of the revised Ordinance for Enforcement of the Food Sanitation Act (MHLW Ordinance No.23-1948) and Specification and Standards for Food, Food Additives, etc. to approve the following four new food additives:

Food additives are categorized into four types in Japan, including designated food additives, existing food additives, natural flavorings and substances which are generally regarded as food and used as food additives. At the end of 2013, there were 438 designated additives, 365 existing additives, approximately 600 natural flavorings and about 100 of the last category.
