Japan Introduces New Notification Requirements for Enzyme-Producing Microorganisms in Food Additives

Manufacturers of enzyme food additives must notify the CAA of the production microorganisms used. Even if the scientific name of the microorganisms changes, enzymes made with the same microorganisms may continue to be marketed once the equivalence is confirmed.

On September 10, 2025, Japan's Consumer Affairs Agency (CAA) released the Notification and Public Disclosure of Production Microorganisms for Enzymes as Food Additives.
