Japan Rejects 59 Batches of Imported Food in August 2021

59 batches of imported food from 17 countries/regions failed to export to Japan in August 2021. The violation of food and additive standards was the main cause.

According to the latest MHLW notification, 59 batches of food products imported from 17 countries/regions were found non-compliant in August 2021. Among these products, 15 batches (25% of total rejections) were from China, and 7 batches (12% of total rejections) were from Vietnam. It is noteworthy that frozen food accounted for the majority of the overall rejection for the countries mentioned above.

The most non-compliant reason is the violation of the food and additives standards, including violating the ingredients specification and standards for use. Besides, many fresh foods and processed foods were found containing toxic/harmful substances or having excessive pesticide residues.
