On Dec. 4, 2020, MHLW unveiled an amendment to the "Ordinance for Enforcement of the Food Sanitation Act" and "Standards and Criteria for Food and Food Additives, etc.", which mainly involves the usage of three food additives in food. This revision were implemented as of the release date.
Tartaric Acid and Metatartaric Acid were newly listed in the Ordinance for Enforcement of the Food Sanitation Act appended table 1. The food additives in this table are considered to be harmless to the human body. Meanwhile, their definition, content, character, and test requirements are specified.
In addition, the amendment also pointed out to revise the specifications for additive Calcium Carbonate. This time the Calcium Carbonate was divided into Calcium CarbonateⅠand Calcium CarbonateⅡ. The specifications of Calcium CarbonateⅠis same with the original Calcium Carbonate, but the requirement for Calcium CarbonateⅡ(containing Calcium Carbonate, L-Tartaric Acid and L-Malic acid calcium double salt, and the Calcium Carbonate is the main ingredient) is newly specified.
