Korea to Add Uranium as Drinking Water Testing Index

On May 7, 2015, the Ministry of Environment of Korea released the “Amendment to Quality Standard for Drinking Water and Relevant Testing Rules”, which will be open for public consultation for 40 days after the announcement.

In this new rule, uranium is added as an important testing index for determining the quality of drinking water, the limit value of which is set at 30mg/L as recommend by WHO and the water quality standards of the US. The standard will apply to drinking water, ground water, facilities of drinking water, etc.

After this new rule is implemented, water found containing excessive uranium will be banned from the market and all drinking water found in violation of the standard will be recalled immediately and destroyed.
