On February 28th, Republic of Korea Food and Drug Administration KFDA announced the revision of Health/Functional Foods Act in the following areas:
- Deleted recommended articles and base production on “Excellent Health/Functional Food Production Standard”;
- Clearly defined the basis for the available substances in enteric capsules, granules and tablets;
- Added provisions on lead and cadmium among standards on heavy metal content in functional ingredients;
- Set acidic value and peroxide specifications for EPA and DHA Fatty Acids;
- Modified the raw material name of lutein;
- Added and revised testing methods.
Previously on February 27th, KFDA announced the re-evaluation of 16 functional ingredients used in health foods such as xylitol and glucosamine.
