Korea Proposes Amendments to Standards and Specifications for Foods

On Jan. 9, 2015, Korea released the Amendments to Standards and Specifications for Foods, which will see the following aspects change:

1. The application scope of deep sea water used for food processing has been expanded. Deep sea water, concentrated deep sea water, mineral-enriched desalinated deep sea water, and mineral-enriched deep sea water have been approved to be used in food production.

2. The maximum residue limit of flupyradifurone, ipconazole and pyraclonil has been established, and the range of target agricultural products for other pesticides has been expanded to 39 products. The maximum residue limit for 6-BA (6-Benzyl aminopurine, Benzyladenine) in soybean sprouts as well as the maximum residue limit for veterinary drugs including roxithromycin have also been established.

3. Coriandri Fructus has been excluded from the list of herbal medicines in common use for food and medicine. Stem of Aristolochia manshuriensis Komarov, pokeweed (Phytolacca americana L.), echinacea (Echinacea purpurea) and seed of jengkol (Archidendron jiringa Nielson) have been added to the list of "raw materials not usable in foods".
